Meet the Team

  • EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    Leland is an entrepreneur and an experienced nonprofit leader. He grew up in Napa, where he received comprehensive sex education. This helped shape his passion for expanding access to sex education justice. He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his M.S. from Fresno State University. His interests include water sustainability, reading nonfiction, and cooking.

  • CO-FOUNDER & DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING

    Antonia is an expert sexual reproductive health educator with over 20 years experience in training educators, teaching individuals and youth, developing curriculum for inclusive, science based, medically accurate sexual reproductive health education. She is a dynamic and collaborative leader, committed to building relationships and working closely with communities. She received her BA from Dominican University of California and an MPH from San Jose State University. Antonia has been on the planning team for the National Sex Ed Conference, is a Master Community Health Education Specialist, and has presented to people of all ages in a wide range of settings. She was raised in a queer community and in her spare time she rides horses, fixes up a 67’ mustang and walks her great dane.

  • CO-FOUNDER & MEDICAL DIRECTOR

    Dr. Leighton is a family medicine doctor who specializes in Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH). She completed a residency at University of California in San Francisco (UCSF), and a fellowship in Sexual and Reproductive Health at Beth Israel, in New York City. She attended the Physicians for Reproductive Health Leadership Training academy, which prepares physicians to become lifelong advocates for reproductive health care across the country. She returned to UCSF to advocate for and teach sexual reproductive health within medical training. Dr. Leighton now lives in Napa and is a Medical Director for SRH at OLE Health, a federally qualified health center. She also leads a county wide Sexual and Reproductive Health Coalition in Napa, which includes partners in the LGBTQ community, Planned Parenthood and NEWS. After Roe V Wade was overturned, Dr. Leighton led community meetings with concerned citizens, which eventually led to the establishment of The SexEd Justice Project, and serves as the Medical Director.

    Jessica is a 30+ year finance and retail executive, with experience as a strategic development consultant for start-ups, early stage, and privately run companies, and a seasoned non profit board member with board, committee and leadership experience.

  • DIRECTOR

    Samantha is a former educator turned lawyer, specializing in strategic executive advising to high growth companies. She is driven by her passions related to education reform and reproductive justice and access. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors and eating great food.

  • SECRETARY

    Dr. Kim D. Hester Williams (she/her/hers) is a Professor of English, American Multicultural Studies (AMCS), and Women's and Gender Studies at Sonoma State University. She is co-editor of a book collection of interdisciplinary essays on race and environment, Racial Ecologies, published by the University of Washington Press in 2018 and, as well, serves as a newly appointed co-editor of the journal, Legacy: A Journal of American Women Writers. Additionally, Dr. Hester Williams also serves as a general and/or Board member for several local Napa organizations including the Napa Valley Youth Symphony, Aldea (Mental Health Services), the Napa Valley Historical Society and as an American Canyon Soroptimist. She also writes and publishes poetry grounded in the long tradition of Black Womanism.

  • CHAIR PERSON

    Cara Mae began her public health journey providing medically accurate sexual health education to youth in classrooms and clinical settings with CommuniCare in Yolo County. After receiving her Master in Public Health and Bixby Population and Reproductive Health Certificate from UCLA's Fielding School of Public Health, Cara Mae moved to Napa and worked as a Health Education Specialist for the Napa County Public Health Division for 11 years. Since 2018 she has led the Napa Farmers Market to grow community around local food and increase equitable access to farm fresh produce. Cara Mae believes that sexual health is a human right and together we can create a program and services to make this a reality for all people in our community.

    Dr. Townsend is a family practice doctor and former Chief Medical Officer, OLE Health. She currently serves as the Regional Medical Director for Partnership HealthPlan of California.
